Little Known Ways to Stress Less
Life is one of the most amazing journeys we will have the pleasure of experiencing. It's as difficult as it is beautiful, and we just have to try to cope with the many moments it tosses our way. Being as life is simultaneously the shortest and most enduring thing we will ever encounter, it becomes quite easy to get caught up in a wave of stress as we go through the motions of our day-to-day routines. If you've somehow managed to stumble upon this post, and have actually read this far, thank you kindly. However, you're clearly here because you've probably found life getting a tad too demanding for your liking. I've compiled a couple of methods to cope with stress that I've stumbled upon, and implemented in my own life. My hopes are to aid in providing methods in reducing your stress, as well as to empower you to effectively overcome the stress you're encountering, and shift the power back into your hands!
1) Update
One of the first steps in keeping your stress under control would be to start with your physical being. Your current habits and lifestyle may very well be one of a multitude of plausible reasons for the buildup of stress you're struggling with. Leading a healthier lifestyle, whether it be through exercise or a healthier diet, will ultimately impact your mental health - leading to a more satisfied, and less stressed, you.
2) Reevaluate
More often than not, the stress we are experiencing is coming from ourselves. Your own mind creates stress when you look back to past events, or when you maintain a negative outlook on whatever situation it is that you're facing. If we're always worrying about a certain outcome happening, the more we are allowing the chances of it happening to become more and more likely. The main goal in this step is to get over negative thinking and try to eliminate your sense of self-doubt. Whilst it's easier said than done, self-doubt can create barriers to your ability in moving towards a relaxed state.
3) Reduce
At times we become stressed in our day-to-day routines, simply because we have involved ourselves in a plethora of things. When you start to become overwhelmed, even the leisure activities you have on your plate can become mundane and trying. In order to achieve a "reduced" state, try to consider the responsibilities you've set for yourself, and keep a note of your routine. My rule of thumb is to see what I've added to my plate, and to ask myself if each activity (or role) I've taken on has benefited me in any way, and/or does it make me happy to do these things/fulfill said roles. Coming to an agreement with yourself, and finding the balance between "bored" and "busy" can make a world of a difference when dealing with stress.
4)Unwind
The final, and probably the most straightforward of the methods, is just to chill the hell out! Most people who find themselves stressed out have become so engulfed in it that they can't recall a time when they were just at a calm state of mind. Relaxing can take on different forms for everyone. Whether it's running, practicing meditation, reading, or doing nothing at all, taking a couple of minutes out of your day to simply regroup yourself is a great approach to easing stress levels. Prioritize yourself for 20 minutes each day, and see how much of a difference it makes!
